PARALEGAL CAREER
According to the research reports, the global Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) market is experiencing substantial growth, with the US market being a significant contributor. Research reports estimate that the LPO market has reached $23.6 billion in 2025 ($18.74 billion off-shore and $4.86 billion on-shore) and is projected to reach $123.1 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 30.0%.
In order to deliver the LPO services, LPO service providers continually require skilled resources that can perform paralegal work. This growth translates into tremendous career advancement and financial growth opportunities for paralegals working at LPO service providers.
In addition to LPOs, law firms are the biggest employers of paralegals, and remote employees is the new norm in legal industry enabling law firms to benefit from cost savings, flexibility, and access to a wider talent pool.
PARALEGAL JOB DEMAND
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that the paralegal and legal assistant professions will grow faster than average between 2022 and 2032, expanding by 14%, much faster than the average of all occupations. Law firms will continue to be the largest employers of paralegals both as onsite and remote employees. However, many for-profit companies are also likely to increase their in-house legal departments, which could increase the demand for paralegals in onsite and remote settings.
According to U.S. News & World Report, in 2024, paralegals earned a median salary of US$59,200. The top 25% made US$75,560, while the lowest-paid 25% made US$46,850. The BLS also indicates that the highest 10% earned more than US$94,960. However, these figures can fluctuate depending on the circumstances of the position.
PARALEGAL AS CAREER CHOICE
Paralegals play a crucial role as onsite and remote employees in law firms, corporate legal departments, LPO providers, as well as self-employed freelancers by providing essential services and support to attorneys and clients through procedural and substantive legal work. They handle a wide range of tasks, including legal research, document preparation, client communication, and trial preparation. It is highly important to note that AI-enabled paralegals are highly in demand globally as legal industry stands out as the leading adopter of AI and generative AI tools. Choosing paralegal as a career choice depends on the following factors:
- Interest in Law: Becoming a paralegal is a popular choice for global talent with interest in law and making a positive impact in their communities. As the demand for more economical legal services is ever increasing worldwide, paralegals have a variety of settings and specialties where they can find career opportunities.
- Interest in Technology: The legal industry has embraced AI and Generative AI tools at much faster rate than any other industry globally. This adoption of technology has enabled the lawyers, paralegals and support staff to increase their productivity and efficiency manifold, while having sufficient time to focus on more strategic value-added roles. The future value and role of paralegals in legal industry is highly dependent on their hands-on skills and knowledge-base in mastering the art of legal prompts and employing AI and GenAI tools in their workflows.
Educational Requirement: The minimum educational requirement for becoming a paralegal is a high school diploma and completion of paralegal professional training. An Associate’s degree in any field may be enough in most cases, although a Bachelor’s degree in any field is preferred by large law firms. In the case of working at LPO providers or as a freelancer, high school diploma is enough. However, in all cases paralegal professional training with AI-enablement is essential to develop the required job-ready skills and knowledge-base to start your career as an entry-level paralegal.
